Extra Credits for the Extra Step!
Bud is self-funded, so we skipped Apple's $99/year developer fee. To compensate you for running the quick quarantine command below, macOS signups automatically get extra starting credits compared to Windows!
Because Bud is unsigned, macOS will block it on first launch. After dragging Bud.app to your Applications folder, run this command once in your terminal:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Bud.appRight-clicking and choosing "Open" will not bypass the Gatekeeper blocks on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) chips. Running this command in your terminal is the official, supported way to lift the quarantine.
📺 Watch: How to Get Started
See exactly how to open Terminal and run the quarantine bypass command — takes about 10 seconds.
Installation Guide
- 1
Open the DMG and Install
Double-click the downloaded
Bud.dmgfile, then drag the Bud icon directly into your Applications folder. - 2
Run the Quarantine Bypass Command
Open the Terminal app on your Mac, paste the command copied from above, and hit Enter. This tells macOS that the application is safe to open.
- 3
Launch BUD from Applications
Open BUD from your Applications folder. You will see a small waveform icon appear in your macOS menu bar (top-right of your screen).
- 4
Grant Mic & Accessibility Access
BUD needs Microphone permissions to hear your voice, and Accessibility permissions to interact with Excalidraw on your behalf. Allow both when prompted on launch.
System Requirements
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer. Requires a working microphone and the official Excalidraw workspace open in your web browser.
